Boulevard Kwikspar recently joined hands with the St Mary’s Virgin Anglican Church in Woodstock to help them with their soup kitchen that they offer to the local community every Wednesday. Boulevard Kwikspar has committed to running the soup kitchen once a month. On the 24th of July 2013 we rolled out our first soup kitchen we made large pots of soup which was made - by our staff in our store’s kitchen.

On the Wednesday we took all the supplies to the church and set up our stand. It didn’t take long and a line of locals were there to receive a bowl of soup. We served a bowl of soup and 2 slices of bread and a fruit. In total we supplied 150 servings to the needy. It was quite sad but at the same time, rewarding in that we could help in a small way.

We will strive to do this on a continuous basis, not only in the winter, but throughout the year.In the Cape this brings a little relief to the poor and to show the community that Spar really cares.

WP Blood Transfusion Service held another successful Blood Donation Drive at The Boulevard on the 18th June 2013, with 109 people attending, 78 full units collected and 16 new donors on their books.

Thank you to all for your continuous support.

Nelson Mandela once said “There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children”. In the spirit of Madiba’s love for children, Young and Rubicam (Y&R) hosted a donation drive to benefit underprivileged learners at Ysterplaat Primary for Mandela Day, with the support of The Boulevard Body Corporate, The Boulevard Kwik Spar, staff at other businesses in the office park, and Zoom Advertising. The donation drive comprised of a bake sale at Y&R, along with a call for donations such as school shoes, children’s clothing, food for the school’s soup kitchen, books, stationery, and toys.

The response was overwhelming. Boulevard Body Corporate & Kwik Spar donated groceries to the value of R1500 to the school’s soup kitchen. Employees from various businesses in the office park donated magazines, stationery, food, sweets and clothing, as did Y&R’s staff. The bake sale yielded just over R2000, which was used to purchase school shirts.

Thank you to every person who contributed to making this donation drive a success, and in so doing, honouring Madiba’s legacy and improving the lives of underpriviledged children.

madiba day

OMD, with the help of Boulevard Body Corporate, Spar and Ker&Downey were able to contribute to the  9 kitchens at INCLUDID, a home for mentally challenged people at the Alexandra hospital.

The grocery boxes were received with great appreciation. Thanks to Ker&Downey team, not only for your grocery donation, but also for your help with packing. Great team help in The Boulevard.
We also managed to give each of the 67 residents a goodie bag which included lotions and roll-ons, received from Indigo Cosmetics, as well as peak caps from Cape Times.
The helpers at INCLUDID also received a goodie bag including perfumes from Prestige cosmetics which we received with the help of Mind Your Media.
A special thanks to ACA threads who donated a huge box of cotton which the residents use in their threading projects. In addition, ACA has created a job opportunity for a resident, which stays true in honouring the Mandela Day, which we celebrated.
Sea Harvest, another fellow tenant at The Boulevard donated teddy’s which brightened the day for many kids at the Marion House in Woodstock.
I would like to thank all the sponsors who made our Mandela Day an ABSOLUTE success.
